Double bill & free for Wild Cards!*Curbside LambsearCurbside Lambsear is a London-based experimental music duo, formed by Magdalena McLean (of the band caroline) and Annabelle Mödlinger (of The Umlauts). Their sound combines pop, folk, and improvisation with influences from drone, dub, and post-punk, resulting in a quirky sonic collage. The project started as a way for Magdalena and Annabelle to experiment together with writing music. During their first sessions, they used the time to learn to play new instruments and to experiment with recording and writing in DAWs. Their musical output is the result of time spent together in the studio, where diverse influences and ideas merge into a collage. Phone notes, short poems written on public transport, field recordings, sample loops, voice memos of rehearsals, and melodies for string instruments come together, shift, and are rearranged, sometimes eventually resulting in songs. Thus, Curbside Lambsear explores a tension field between raw textures and soft intentions, where intuition, experiment, and improvisation take center stage. Nykolaes & Daniël PaulNykolaes and Daniël Paul are Brussels songwriters who were both born and raised in the countryside before moving to Brussels. Besides musical partners, they are also housemates. Together they make soft, half-spoken and half-sung living room music, in which guitar, DIY instruments, and electronic elements come together — sometimes with autotune, sometimes deliberately out of tune. Their music moves between uplifting grunge, backwards folk, and playful drone, with disarming and emotional lyrics in English and Dutch. Their songs sound intimate and pure, but are never entirely predictable. Think of a guitar that cries, strange electronic effects, grass under your feet, sun in your eyes, and lambs on a screen. A kind of music that feels simultaneously familiar and a bit alienating.
