Can Le Cinéma still save the world?

For two years, we traveled back and forth between Liège and Carcassonne, two cities where political cinema has found refuge in festivals entirely dedicated to it. We asked those who make or defend it a question whose answer we dreaded. "Can cinema still save the world?" Costa-Gavras, Robert Guédiguian, Stéphane Brizé, Maria de Medeiros, Thierry Michel: their voices, like those of dozens of other filmmakers, producers, and journalists, compose an uncompromising assessment. Some doubt. Others have proof that films can change laws. Most find themselves in the image of Sisyphus. Faced with the rise of autocrats, climate retreat, and democratic erosion, our conviction remains intact: cinema can continue to arm consciences. But will that be enough?
