ROMEO & JULIETTE Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo ROMEO & JULIETTE: A moving re-reading of the masterpiece by Shakespeare Après after more than 25 years of absence in Brussels, the prestigious Ballets de Monte-Carlo create the event by passing through Belgium with one of their most iconic shows: "Romeo & Juliet", choreographed by Jean-Christophe Maillot on the masterful score of Sergueï Prokofiev. Created in 1996 at Opéra de Monte-Carlo, this version has conquered the most beautiful stages in the world – from New York to Tokyo, passing through Paris, London, or Rome – and seduced hundreds of thousands of spectators with its emotional power and formal beauty. It must be said that the company enjoys an impeccable international reputation. It is indeed unanimously recognized for its technical virtuosity, its artistic audacity, and its rare ability to combine tradition and innovation. A ballet of flesh, soul, and emotion Maillot offers a deeply human re-reading of the most famous love story in the repertoire. He centers his subject on the tormented figure of Frère Laurent, an impotent witness and involuntary catalyst of the drama. Through his memories, the ballet becomes a psychological flash-back, a poignant introspection on love, youth, innocence, and destiny. In this story, Romeo and Juliet are real teenagers: impulsive, passionate, fragile. They discover love as one receives a shock, with the intensity of a first vertigo. Their story, told in a non-linear narrative, gains in depth and originality. A unique style: between tradition and modernity The choreographer Jean-Christophe Maillot, master of "post-classical", blends with virtuosity classical vocabulary and contemporary gestures. His choreography, of great narrative clarity, draws from the fluidity of cinema: slow motion, freeze frames, diagonal movements. Each dancer, even in the corps de ballet, embodies a character in their own right, carrying meaning and emotion. An event not to be missed Acclaimed by international critics – « a masterpiece of maturity » (Le Figaro), « a poignant and luminous work » (New York Times), « a perfect ballet because it is authentic » (El Levante) – this version of Romeo and Juliet stands out as a rare sensory experience, where dance speaks of love, death, and humanity. Don't miss this exceptional event, which brings together the artistic excellence of one of the greatest companies in the world, the choreographic sensitivity, and the timeless grace of an eternal myth.
