Tasting lambic in an authentic traditional café

In de Verzekering tegen de Grote Dorst was sometimes also called "the cafe with the longest name and with the shortest opening hours", because since the 70s it was only open from 10 to 13:30 hours. That changed in 2017. On the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the business, Kurt decided to keep the cafe open henceforth on Sundays and holidays from 10 to 20 hours. The inn on the church square of Eizeringen is one of the oldest buildings in the village and has one of the most extensive lambic, geuze and kriek selections in the world. The walls tell a large piece of brewery history from the region and also testify to the former village life in Eizeringen. As soon as you set foot inside, you imagine yourself in the late 40s or early 50s. What immediately stands out are the rare art deco-style bar and the Westminster clock. The restoration of the building lasted from 2001 to 2005. Kurt did everything possible to combine modern comfort with the authenticity of this beautiful piece of popular heritage. The typical ambiance of yesteryear was not tampered with. Every Sunday you have the opportunity to put together a board with four lambic tastings to degustate in an authentic folk cafe. From "Strafste Café van Vlaanderen" to "Best Beer Destination in the World" In 2009, the inn snatched the title of "Coolest cafe of Flanders". This competition was organized by the TV program Vlaanderen Vakantieland and Toerisme Vlaanderen. Since September 2010, "In de Verzekering tegen de Grote Dorst" is also in the list of the 50 best beer destinations in the world. In November 2014, the inn even ended up in the top-3 of this list. Since 2015, the cafe has continuously been at number 1 of the lists "Best Beer Bar in Belgium" and "Best Beer Bar in the World".
