Rhagium Inquisitor:
Andries Boone belongs to the musicians who helped shape Flemish folk over the past fifteen years. Both with the mandolin quartet MANdolinMAN and with his solo trilogy C.O.L.O.R.S (2019), T.I.M.E.L.A.P.S.E (2021) and C.O.N.V.E.R.S.A.T.I.O.N.S (2023), he created surprising, eclectic, and experimental albums that effortlessly transcended the boundaries of folk and were widely acclaimed by press and radio. In September 2026, his new album, Rhagium Inquisitor, will be released.
The title Rhagium Inquisitor refers to the grey longhorn beetle, a small beetle that lives under layers of bark of dead coniferous trees and stands as a symbol for the layered sound world of the new album. The sound of Raghium Inquisitor is inspired by Scandinavian and Breton folk music and the hunting horn tradition, but also by electronic music of the 80s (among others Depeche Mode) and dance and trance influences from the 90s. On this album, Boone merges acoustic and electronic worlds and brings together old and new musical traditions. Traditional instruments such as violin, octave violin, mandolin, nyckelharpa, Hardanger fiddle, and baroque musette meet the sounds of rock, modern chamber music, and electronics. Synths and sequencers form an integral part of Boone's layered and compelling sound universe. Boone played most of the instruments himself, but also worked with two young talents: Marieke Van Ransbeeck (bagpipes, baroque musette, Swedish säckpipa) and Oscar Beerten (violin, octave violin, Norwegian Hardanger fiddle). Both young musicians possess a Nordic Master in Folk Music and stand with both feet in the Scandinavian tradition.
Met Raghium Inquisitor, Andries Boone explores the border areas between tradition and innovation again. This album confirms his place as one of the most inventive voices within contemporary folk.
