Spine of Desire

It is a work almost indescribable like the emotions buried deep within oneself. A morass that results from a porosity to the world, as if all the love and all the violence of it had found a defined space to be regurgitated. Bodies move on stage, sometimes together, sometimes separately, determining a space of care, both secret and shared. Spine of Desire is a gesture of anger and hope. If it were a precise moment of a day, it would be the elusive instant between a night that ends and a day that is slow to hatch. All the light that crosses the show summons this suspended moment that chases away the last nocturnal shadows. Obsessions, sadness, and melancholy mingle with the joy and drunkenness of an endless party. A few familiar objects embody the reminiscences of a Creole garden, a territory of one's own, or become the mirror of a darkness to expiate. The bodies of Stanley Ollivier, Lily Brieu Nguyen and Mamadou Wagué translate as much anguish as resilience, borrowing in particular the steps of a cyclical footwork. Care is treated in all its physical and mental dimensions: from dense and textured intangible to face masks. Spine of Desire is both a cry and a quest. A narrative woven from individual stories and common experiences. Dance initiates a collective healing ritual. Creating a space-time without precise contours, this choreographic work is as much about suffocating lucidity as it is about a liberating trance.
