The Breath  Dit duo has long been no stranger in our house. After haunting passages in 2021 and 2024 (with The Breath and Honeyfeet), Ríoghnach Connolly and Stuart McCallum return with folk in its purest form. Ríoghnach’s songs arise as a stream of poetic consciousness, full of personal stories about love, loss and alienation. Her voice switches effortlessly from whisper-soft to raw and intense. On stage, she is an impressive singer and flutist, with disarming humor and an infectious presence. Stuart’s refined guitar playing brings peace, nuance and depth. Together they create music that touches, comforts and uplifts. Melancholic, but always with light. Spafford Campbell Owen Spafford (violin) and Louis Campbell (guitar) met as teenagers and immediately found a common language. Today, as a duo, they are building an idiosyncratic universe, carried by refined interplay and a strong urge for improvisation. Their new album Tomorrow Held consists of eight largely instrumental compositions that leave space and embrace the mystery. Folk, jazz, post-rock and chamber music flow together into their own sound world — difficult to label, but all the more recognizable in feeling. With echoes of Talk Talk and the vulnerable intensity of Bon Iver, music is created that breathes, slows down and continues to resonate. Spafford Campbell does not look for what fits, but for what remains.
