Met Oinatzak takes Duo Asaba you through a landscape in which diverse musical traditions touch and influence each other. The title means “track” in Basque and refers to a program that consciously seeks connections between academic music and living musical traditions from different cultural contexts. What at first glance seems to lie far apart, turns out to be surprisingly closely related upon closer listening. In this concert, sound worlds from Argentina, Japan, Macedonia, Romania, Spain, and the Basque Country meet each other. Rhythm, melody, and color thereby function as a common language. Folk musical roots are not approached as static remnants, but form the starting point for a personal, contemporary approach in which tradition and innovation reinforce each other. The result is music that feels both recognizable and discovering. Since the premiere in the autumn of 2024, Duo Asaba has brought this program to various stages in Spain and Central Europe. Everywhere, Oinatzak turns out to work as an invitation to open listening, free from genre labels or prior knowledge. The combination of virtuosity, clarity, and playfulness makes this concert accessible without sacrificing depth. Oinatzak is not a journey with a fixed end point, but a trajectory in which influences cross, diverge, and come together again. A concert that lets you hear how rich and versatile the dialogue between cultures can sound when music is given the space to breathe.
