Discover the abbey of Vlierbeek and the restored rooms in the New Abbot's Quarter

Together with a guide from the Heemkundige Kring Vlierbeek vzw you will go on a voyage of discovery through the abbey site. Naturally, a visit to the magnificent abbey church, the masterpiece of architect Laurent-Benoît Dewez, is one of the highlights. And on September 27 you can exceptionally also come and admire the beautifully restored halls in the Nieuw Abtskwartier. Grab your chance: those halls are only accessible during a guided tour with a guide! You will learn more about the rich history of the abbey during this tour and what the life of the Benedictine monks was like for almost seven centuries. Stories about the period after the abolition of the abbey in 1796 will also be discussed. Benedictines are no longer there, but Vlierbeek is alive like never before. During the festive year 2025, in which we celebrated 900 years of Abdij van Vlierbeek, that became abundantly clear. The guide shows you corners you may have never discovered and shows you how the age-old abbey site has been given a new destination over the years. Appointment at 3:00 PM at the Western Gate.
