Wim Mertens Ensemble

De Belgische composer, pianist, and vocal artist Wim Mertens brings a selection from his rich repertoire together with his brass ensemble. In addition, they also present music from Mertens' brand-new album, which will be released on November 14. With the release of the first single 'Weakening It', Mertens is already giving a preview of the new album.\n\nWith more than 70 albums to his name, Wim Mertens is an established value in contemporary classical music. His oeuvre, which ranges from the experimental 'For Amusement Only' to classics like 'Struggle for Pleasure' and 'Maximizing the Audience', testifies to melodic finesse, rhythmic power, and compositional layering. Mertens' characteristic countertenor, in combination with his virtuoso piano playing, knows how to touch both the sensitive listener and the musical connoisseur. In 'Ranges of Robustness' (2024), Mertens explores the concept of 'robustness' in all its forms and nuances. The nine compositions on the album are characterized by a contemporary, symphonic approach that resonates in his live performances.
