Kerff - Compagnie Cecilia

In Kerff, Sébastien Dewaele tells the story of Marcel Kerff, a butcher’s son and cyclist from the Voer region in the early 1900s. Dewaele does not portray Kerff as a hero, but paints a portrait of a man who spent his life standing in the shadow of others and remained true to who he was – a domestique in cycling, a devoted brother and, later, a butler who continued to serve until his death. Kerff is a monologue accompanied by live music, exploring service, compassion and the value of the small things. As Kerff shares his life story with humour and passion, a narrative unfolds about purpose, about being human, about love for family and about a quest for humility in a world that today seems to want to celebrate nothing but heroes. Following Marinus (2018) and Once upon a time in the Westhoek (2022), Sebastien Dewaele creates a third production with Compagnie Cecilia that focuses on moving yet forgotten heritage, on ordinary people caught up in the grand sweep of history.
