Fat White Family

Het Britse Fat White Family enjoys a cult status and a reputation. The band was formed in a London squat in 2011 and has had a changing lineup ever since, with frontman Lias Saoudi as the only permanent member. Since their inception, Fat White Family has deliberately flirted with provocation, controversy, repulsive imagery, and filth. Their music is an unhinged symphony of post-punk, noise, and psychedelia, and their lyrics and stage presence elevate the questioning of conventional moral standards and good taste to an art form. In doing so, the band touches on themes such as collapsing masculinity, Celtic mysticism, depraved shamanism, eroticism, radical empathy, narcissism, arbitrary violence, and a fascination with the aesthetics of both far-left and far-right political symbols. Not a band for sensitive souls, then, but one of the most dangerous and exciting acts of the moment. A reputation that has earned Fat White Family comparisons to other unhinged projectiles like The Fall, Butthole Surfers, and The Birthday Party. The Family earned their nickname ‘drug band with a rock problem’ based on their often literally insane live show, which thunders on like a fever dream that could implode at any moment into a fireball of self-destruction. After a period of absence, Fat White Family is sneaking through the back alley into the big arenas as support for The Strokes. In addition, they are also playing a select number of headline shows in honor of the tenth anniversary of their album ‘Songs for Our Mothers’ and are working on a new record with core member Saul Adamcewski that will be released next year.
