Cinema Krekke: It Was Just An Accident

IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT is the new film by the Iranian master Jafar Panahi. The film won the Gouden Palm earlier this year at the Filmfestival van Cannes and was, like Panahi’s previous films, made without the permission of the Iranian regime. IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT is a thriller in which revenge, humor, and humanity come together. Vahid (Vahid Mobasseri) is at work in the garage when a customer walks in on a quiet evening, who is having problems with his car after a small accident. Vahid is startled when he thinks he recognizes Eghbal, the officer who tortured him in prison. He smells revenge, but at the same time, doubts increase. Together with a number of fellow sufferers, he desperately tries to get the truth on the table. It brings them from perilous to comical situations, but how do they know for sure that they have the right man? Regisseur Jafar Panahi was himself sentenced to a prison sentence of 6 years and was imposed a professional ban. He used, among other things, his own experiences for IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT. Although Panahi’s films are shot clandestinely, his work is received with unanimous enthusiasm abroad.
