Are you curious about the inside of this historic school building? Then join us for a walk through the building. The guide will tell you the history of this nineteenth-century city school, and you will learn everything about the future renovations.
The ADVN | archief voor nationale bewegingen has been established in this former city school for almost 30 years. Since 1997, the building has housed the heritage of the Flemish movement. The many classrooms that once served as teaching spaces now function as offices, a depot, a reading room, or a public space. The playground was transformed into the ‘Juffertuin’ (Maiden Garden): a green oasis that visitors can enjoy freely.
After 145 years, the building is due for renovation. Renewal of the gymnasium is the first step in a process that will make the building more sustainable and future-proof, so that it can continue to function optimally and shine for the coming decades.
