Brokar choir Music

Brokar choir

Sun, 21 Mar 2027 · 14:00
Schouwburg Noord, Antwerp
Brokar was born in December 2024 not as an ordinary choir, but as a meeting of voices, stories, and hearts. A mix of talented, amateur, and professional singers and musicians who found each other in the same deep love for music. We come from different corners of the rich Syrian diversity and found our way to Belgium. The war pushed us apart, but life and perhaps fate brought us together again. We are Syrian-Belgian music lovers. What connects us goes beyond music alone: it is a desire to share, to touch, and to connect. With art, with humanity, with love. With our voices, we want to build a bridge to your hearts. We take you on an authentic journey through sounds and melodies that carry our soul, towards a rich culture that lives, breathes, and tells. Together we have already been on stage a number of times, including in Cinema Rix and at The Pixel. We were also allowed to perform together with Smooskoor in Stad Antwerpen, at the invitation of Dilbi vzw. These moments have connected us even more strongly and further shaped our musical journey. On March 21, 2027, on Mother's Day in Syria, we bring a special concert. Because a mother is not only the one who gave us life. A mother can also be nature, the fatherland, love, or even music itself, Brokar is also our mom.. Today we want to honor all these meanings of ‘mother’. Together with Sally, we take you on a journey through ancient music from the Middle East, with songs that are more than 500 years old. Music that has survived generations and still touches hearts. We want to embrace you with our voices and our music, warm, sincere, and full of humanity. We believe in humanity, diversity, and living together. We are many, but when we sing, we become one voice, one breath, one soul. Bio Sally (inspirer of the project): Sally Ghannoum is a Syrian-Belgian artist, singer, filmmaker, and entrepreneur. In 2015, I came to Belgium because of the war in Syria. Since then, I have been building my life and my work in the art and culture sector step by step here. I am active in Antwerp with my cultural center Dilbi vzw, where I organize cultural projects and meetings. Throughout the years, I have been allowed to perform on various Belgian and European stages, including Toneelhuis, De Roma, Arenberg, and the Red Star Line Museum. I came from my home country with a story of hope, art, and humanity. In Belgi I have been able to continue to spread that story by organizing cultural events such as the Dilbi Cultureel Festival and ‘The Daughter of Dilbi’. In Deurne and Antwerp I remain active in cultural life, with the conviction that art can connect people and build bridges between communities. Besides my work as an artist, I am also a vocal coach and I give vocal workshops, also for non-Arabic speakers. This way, I want to make music and vocal technique accessible to everyone. About a year and a half ago, I started a new artistic project with a group of beautiful Syrian artists with a fresh vision on art and collaboration. I am the programmer, responsible for HR, and vocal coach of the Brokar choir, which saw the light of day in December 2024. I believe that Brokar is an important step in my life. I believe in every talent within the choir and want to let it grow into a visible and appreciated project, with attention to integration, diversity, and living together in society. Art can save the world.
