Pearls of heritage Every month, a church in Tongeren-Borgloon opens its doors to explore top heritage under the guidance of a guide. During each visit, special stories are told. Stories hidden in building stones, statues, stained glass windows... We highlight art styles from Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Classicism, and Neo-styles to idiosyncratic modern art forms. Tombstones show knights in full battle gear, ostentatious family crests, and honorary titles. We reflect on the broad past of the village and district. Amazing stories behind saint statues, sometimes with bizarre, gruesome attributes, are also not missing. The churches are at a turning point. Now that the religious influx is ebbing, treasures of heritage, treasures of stories from our past, often remain hidden under lock and alarm. Are you joining us on a journey of discovery to these pearls of heritage? Sint-Odulphuskerk The Sint-Odulphuskerk in Borgloon is a must-see for anyone who loves history, art, and architecture.
