Immersive whispering of a cello, wrapped in cellophane Provocative and moving, Pressure Sensitive van Paula Sanchez is more than a musical performance. It is an immersive experience that rewards open-minded listeners. Sanchez has merged her interdisciplinary interests in the intersection of experimental music, improvisation, and performance art into one unique work that finds harmony in noise and melody in dissonance. By pushing the instrument, the material, and her own body to the limit, and reflecting on hidden desires to put ourselves in danger, Sanchez paints wonderfully eerie and abstract soundscapes with unique sound colors that she creates spontaneously on cello, amplified electronics, and cellophane. What we hear (and see) is improvised music that is sometimes fixed and static as a sculpture, and then again dynamic and fluid as a dance.
