Original version: Dutch spoken What does it mean to have young-onset dementia? In Kortrijk, nine people with young-onset dementia, their partners, and buddies have written and performed the play ‘De Loteling’ together. This play is about people who have drawn a bad lot, that of young-onset dementia. Young-onset dementia means that someone starts suffering from dementia before the age of 60. In ‘De Loteling’, these people with young-onset dementia play their own lives. "People with (young-onset) dementia often feel misunderstood. They are full of stories, but withdraw into themselves. It was therefore special to work as a theater maker with all their stories and to put them in the center of the stage. It is not theater about, but with people with dementia." (Theaterregisseur Arne De Jaeghere) In the film ‘Liefde in tijden van jongdementie’, documentary filmmaker Leo De Bock brings the stories of people with dementia and their caregivers into view. The documentary shows images of the theater performance, interviews with the actors and their caregivers. A unique and very candid insight into what it means to have young-onset dementia and to deal with that disease. We are screening this in the context of the ten-day period around mental health. Before and after the screening, you will find an information stand of the association Mozaiek Druivenstreek in the foyer where you can go with questions about (young-onset) dementia.
