Weeping Willow

Treurwil tells the life story of a boy who loses his best friend at a young age, an event that abruptly ends his childhood and brings with it a lifetime of grief, guilt and loss. Later, his brother and mother also die, and as an adult man, he carries all those dead with him: in his writing, his loving and his daily existence. The performance, based on the debut novel of Rik Van Puymbroeck, is musically supported by pianists Heli Jakobson and Peter Pazmany, who bring comfort and depth with their own compositions. Acteur Hans Van Cauwenberghe gives the story a lived-in, intense interpretation. Treurwil is at the same time an ode to grief and to the strength that can grow from it.
