Het Purperen Seizoen: exclusive heathland walk with a guide

A walk through the heath of Vloethemveld brings you into the middle of the silence of nature. What makes this area so special is the presence of three types of heather: cross-leaved heath, bell heather, and common heather – a unique combination in West Flanders! Tiger beetles, sand bees, and digger wasps take advantage of the open, sandy soil on the merlons, while the open vistas provide a feeling of pure tranquility and a viviparous lizard darts away at your feet. Between the merlons, old barracks suddenly appear – silent witnesses of a turbulent military past. During our walk, we tell the story of what was once an extensive heathland area in sandy Flanders.
