Lilia lives in Paris with her girlfriend. When her uncle dies unexpectedly and under mysterious circumstances, she travels back to Tunisia for the funeral. There she meets her family, who know nothing of her life in Paris. Her French girlfriend has come along, but is staying in a hotel so that Lilia can keep the nature of their relationship a secret. Determined to unravel the mystery surrounding her uncle’s sudden death, Lilia is confronted with family secrets in a house where three generations of women live together.In her third feature film, director Leyla Bouzid perfectly balances two storylines: the intimate portrait of a young woman struggling with her double life, and the understated detective story surrounding the death of her uncle, who apparently also led a hidden life for decades. A tender yet sobering look at the position of the LGBTQ+ community in a country where homosexuality is not only viewed as a disgrace by many Muslim families, but is also a criminal offence under the law.
