In a story by the Turkish poet and writer Nazim Hikmet, a certain Doctor Littman sits staring at a heart in a jar. In doing so, he tries to imagine the amorous life of the heart's owner, Madame Tchabaï, and begins to hum a few love songs.
Jean-Luc Fafchamps set this bizarre daydream to music and added his own favorite songs to it to create a cycle for mezzo-soprano, cello, and piano. These ingenious arrangements of well-known and lesser-known chansons are interspersed with gems from the 20th-century repertoire.
Muziek van Jean-Luc Fafchamps, Leos Janacek, Dmitri Sjostakovitsj, Luciano Berio, George Crumb, Alain Bashung, Serge Gainsbourg...
