As soon as frontman Greg Dulli and his band take the stage, there’s electricity in the air.Since the late eighties, The Afghan Whigs have built up an impressive body of work in which raw, unfiltered grunge, a touch of soul rock, R&B, and a healthy dose of bombast come together in a unique way. On June 3 this year, they presented their long-awaited new album, which they will perform live at De Roma.Few bands manage to bridge different generations while continually attracting new fans. Riding the waves of grunge, The Afghan Whigs first appeared on the world stage in the early nineties with the cult hit Debonair. The band from Cincinnati quickly grew into a leading rock act, delivering thunderous performances at Pukkelpop, Rock Werchter, Pinkpop, and Lowlands.The raw garage sound of their early years soon gained more depth, incorporating influences such as soul and R&B. The album Black Love (1996) became their first major success, followed by 1965 two years later. After their split in 2001, Greg Dulli teamed up with Mark Lanegan to form The Gutter Twins. It ultimately took until 2012 for The Afghan Whigs to reunite. With new albums Do The Beast, Gentlemen, and the beautifully melancholic In Spades, the band continues to reinvent itself — a process that continues to this day.The Afghan Whigs also offer fans exclusive VIP upgrades.
