Julian Blue — Songs Without Borders

Mon, 5 Oct 2026 · 20:30
The Music Village, Brussels
€21–23
Julian Blue is a unique Italian-Slovenian ensemble created from the meeting of musicians from both sides of the border, celebrating the shared cultural identity of Gorizia/Gorica and the spirit of the European Capital of Culture 2025. The band brings together Francesca Murro and Mia Marija Herceg on vocals, Federico Milone on alto saxophone, Joseph Nowell on piano, Tina Čeh on violin, Armando Luongo on drums, and Robert Jukič on bass. Their repertoire crosses borders, generations, and musical styles, blending famous Italian and Slovenian compositions with traditional and folk songs from different periods. The music ranges from the cinematic worlds of Ennio Morricone and Nino Rota, to the distinctive voices of Gino Pauli, Bruno Martino, Jure Robežnik, Dušan Sepe, Gregor Strniša, Jani Kovačič, Janez Ramoveš and Laibach, alongside contemporary Italian artists such as Jovanotti. Jazz, improvisation, classical influences, folk traditions, and popular music come together in a fresh and expressive sound. Rather than simply performing familiar melodies, Julian Blue reimagines them, creating a musical dialogue between two cultures that have shared the same territory, history, and stories for generations. On October 5, 2026, Julian Blue brings this cross-border musical journey to Music Village, the legendary Brussels jazz club, offering an evening where Italy and Slovenia meet through jazz, song, memory, and improvisation.
