Primavera

Venice, early 18th century. Cecilia, a talented violinist who lives in an orphanage, meets Antonio Vivaldi, who becomes her teacher. Under his guidance and through his music, she finds the courage to break away from the 'normal' life that was destined for her, and to pursue her passion. Commentary Primavera - based on one of the most famous concertos ever composed - is a classic (pun intended) historical music film, full of lush sets, decor, and colorful costumes. Debut director Damiano Michieletto insisted on filming on location in Rome and Venice, which gives the film a soulful authenticity. In addition to (and during) the music scenes, a stormy connection unfolds between Vivaldi and Cecilia, which never descends into clichés due to the credible performances of Michele Riondino and Tecla Insolia. The film premiered at the Filmfestival van Toronto and won in Chicago de Audience Award for Beste Internationale Film.
