Come along on a day trip on Saturday, October 24, 2026!
We start at Fabriek Energiek in Zelzate, where a guide takes us into the fascinating story of the gypsum dump and the Klein Rusland neighborhood. Discover how this area was transformed into a green and future-oriented project and enjoy a breathtaking view over the Ghent harbor from the top of the mountain. With a bit of luck, you might even spot sheep and buzzards that have found their home here!
Bring good walking shoes for this, it is a small climb and there is no paved road.
After that, we cross the border towards Philippine to the restaurant De Oude Haven, the place for delicious mussels. Not a fan? No problem! There is a choice of tasty alternatives such as eel or steak, so that everyone can fully enjoy themselves. As a bonus, there is coffee/tea and dessert from the chef.
In the afternoon we head to the charming Hulst, where a guide takes us on a city walk. Discover this fortified city, get to know Reynaert de Vos, admire one of the most beautiful churches in the Netherlands, and walk along the ramparts.
Afterward, we visit the museum Hulst ’s-Landshuis, where you will be immersed in the rich history of the region via an audio tour, from prehistoric times to today.
We end the day at Het bonte Hert with a tapas platter and a drink.
In short: a day full of nature, culture, good food, and surprising discoveries.
