Chamber music: Septet van Beethoven

In his younger years, Ludwig van Beethoven composed his Septet in E, a crystal-clear classicist work with which he followed in the footsteps of Mozart. The piece was still far from his heroic and revolutionary style; later he considered it a youthful sin that he preferred not to be reminded of. Nevertheless, the work was very popular, and during this concert, it will become clear why. The contemporary composer Jakob Fliedl composed Shadow Plays for exactly the same instrumentation, a suggestive work full of changing textures, echoes, and silhouettes. A compelling encounter between two worlds, each in its own way characteristic of the spirit of their time.
