Landscape walk through the Scheldt meander

Put on your sturdy walking shoes because we are going on a long hike (7km) and walking through history. One moment you are stepping on the bottom of the former Scheldt, the next you are climbing a river dune and getting to know sickle banks, levees, cut banks... as a result of about 12,000 years of landscape development in the Vlaamse Vallei after the last ice age. The recent influence of humans on the landscape is also covered: the Donk region as a huge peat mine, Nieuwdonk as a sand supplier, artificial cut-offs of the Scheldt course, and the Sigma Plan as a response to the increasing risk of flooding.
