Guided summer bike tour: Air war over the Leie 1940-1945

During WWII, the air war in the border region claimed many victims, including quite a few civilians. Bombs fell on Wervik during the German invasion in May 1940. In the following years, the power plant in Comines (France) was repeatedly attacked. The sad highlight is the heavy bombing of Kortrijk in 1944, in which many hundreds of people died. This bike ride takes us past places that were hit. Graves or names on monuments remind us of the dead of the grim air battles. We cycle past places where planes crashed. The airfield in Wevelgem plays an important role in our story. Guided by guide Geert Delbecque .
