Zangeres Katleen Scheir was artist in residence at the AB with The Golden Glows and has collaborated with Grammy nominees Guy Davis (US) and Fabrizio Poggi (ITA), among others.
In 2018, she released her first solo album with Starman Records: Border Guards. The folky record was exceptionally well received in the Belgian press and was also noticed in the Netherlands, the US, Austria, Switzerland, and Germany (where she was nominated for the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik).
“She sings like an angel,” Grammy nominee Fabrizio Poggi describes her voice. Katleen brings strong folky lyric songs in the tradition of Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, and contemporary Alela Diane.
Katleen Scheir is currently working on a follow-up to Border Guards. The new record is expected in early 2027. For this, she is entering into a close collaboration with guitarist Tom De Poorter, whom you may know from The Rusty Zippers, among others.
Over the past year, Katleen Scheir has written many new songs and delved into quite a few new instruments such as the autoharp and harmonica. Tom De Poorter, with a rich palette of guitar sounds (acoustic, electric, banjo, mandolin, etc.), forms the perfect complement to Katleen's voice. The record, which brings a wide range of folk, pop, jazz, and blues, will be recorded in the summer of 2027 in studio Bobonne Records in Ekeren.
“What happens when you leave a band (The Golden Glows) in which you sang for almost twenty years? My new album will be my answer to that question,” Katleen says. “A search for myself, for my voice, and for my place in music. The urge to write new songs and carve out my own path was irresistible – true to who I am, but also curious about unknown sounds and instruments.
The girl with much sorrow from my debut record has grown older and wiser. Although
