The Hôtel de ville de Saint-Gilles is the work of Albert Dumont (1853-1920), a self-taught architect whose work is marked by French and Flemish Renaissance. It is characterized by its French neo-Renaissance style and spans an area of 4,267m². Erected in 1904, this imposing neo-Renaissance building is the apotheosis of Saint-Gilles artistic activity. The deep connections created with Saint-Gillois artists have contributed, throughout its 120 years of existence, to enriching the town hall's collection: a Rodin plaster, a Jordaens panel, a Paulus canvas, contemporary works from Artists' Routes.... The interior decoration of the Hôtel de Ville is, through the choice of artists and the quality of the works, a true manifesto of Belgian art at the beginning of the 20th century. Indeed, the execution of monumental paintings was entrusted to artists representative of Belgian Symbolism: Albert Ciamberlani, Emile Fabry, Omer Dierickx and Fernand Khnopff.
