During this tour, a guide immerses you in the temporary exhibition Powder to the people.
Until deep into the 20th century, “powders” – often from Dr. Mann of Het Witte Kruis – were everyday fare in many households and factories. They worked as painkillers and fever reducers, but also as stimulants. Many became addicted, and excessive use could lead to fatal kidney damage.
The exhibition ‘Powder to the people’ brings the forgotten ‘powders’ back to memory using undiscovered archival documents, colorful advertisements from producers, and often gripping stories from consumers and their families. Contemporary artists and a group of students shed a new light on the theme: what remedies do we take today to cope with our lives and work?
