Rossini: La Cenerentola - THE MINT THE COIN

Just like the story of Bluebeard (see Hertog Blauwbaards castle on Nov 07, 26), that of Cinderella by Charles Perrault has also become a literary reference that was further reworked and adapted. Gioachino Rossini forged it into a dizzying vocal feat of strength, with virtuoso arias, subtle nuances, and flashing retorts that characterize the characters sharply. Cinderella is humiliated by her stepsisters and sees her fortune squandered by her own father, but through her goodness and courage, she conquers the heart of Prince Don Ramiro, who sees her true value. For his Munt debut, director Daniel Kramer adds an extra layer of magic, humor, and underlying darkness to the fairy-tale world. Under the direction of Speranza Scappucci, Rossini’s most beautiful melodies will sound more sublime than ever. This typically wintery classic from the opera repertoire is offered just before Christmas as a Sunday trip from Hasselt within our first collaboration with De Munt La Monnaie.
