Aperitif concert with Ersin Zurel (Saz and Duduk), Koen Evens (Piano and Synths), and Pieter Jan Valgaeren (Percussion), voluntary contribution in collaboration with extra muros On Sunday, June 7, 2026 , Kunstgalerij De Mijlpaal is organizing a special aperitif concert in Heusden-Zolder. This musical event takes place in the context of the exhibition 'Every spring is a new beginning' . During this performance, Ersin Zurel and Koen Evens will join forces, together with Pieter Jan Valgaeren. The concert promises to be a unique crossover between traditional oriental sounds, Western classical keys, and rhythmic percussion. Ersin Zurel – Saz & Duduk Ersin Zurel is a Belgian musician with a Kurdish background. He is an expert in traditional string and wind instruments and shares his passion as a teacher at the music academies of Genk and Beringen-Koersel. During the concert, he will play two unique instruments: Saz (Bağlama) : a string instrument from the lute family that is very popular in Turkey and Central Asia. Duduk : an ancient Armenian double-reed woodwind instrument with a melancholic, warm sound that is now also widely used in film music. Koen Evens – Piano & Synths Koen Evens is an experienced pianist and teacher. He is affiliated with, among others, NIKO (North Limburgs Instituut for Arts Education). In addition to his classical background, where he previously coordinated large projects around composers such as Franz Liszt, he is experimenting with modern electronic sounds for this project. He will be responsible for the piano and synthesizers during the concert. Pieter Jan Valgaeren – Percussion The duo will be reinforced for this occasion by Pieter Jan Valgaeren on percussion.
