In the aftermath of the 2008 economic crisis, a father desperately tries to protect his children in a world that has taken almost everything from him. One morning, he unexpectedly wakes his children, Ella and Charlie, to take them on a road trip through the Midwest. The children experience the journey as a great adventure and discover a world they have never seen before. Tot Ella begins to realize the reason for the trip.
