TRICOTS Object theater + 8 years A story of itchy memories Cie des gens comme tout le monde / by Marjorie Blériot In the manner of a modern, funny, and cruel tale, this show unfolds the thread of an initiatory journey: that of a woman who has reached the dawn of old age, who tries to reconnect with her family history by learning to knit. Mais Iris does not know how to knit. And as soon as she pulls the thread, everything comes back: childhood in the middle of the sheep, memories that itch, inheritances one wanted to get rid of, lost illusions, images of oneself that one built to please or to survive. There is family, transmission, what one rejects to become an adult, and that strange moment in life when one wonders if, finally, everything was not to be thrown away. There is also love. Love as a promise, as a mirage, as an accident. Gérard first, then the departure to the city, where Iris meets Raùl, a 100% synthetic suburban prince charming. By believing she is finding herself, she loses herself in the eyes of others, in the injunctions to correspond, to seduce, to become an acceptable image of herself. On stage, everything starts from an object: a table, a sewing box, a sewing cabinet that opens, unfolds, transforms. Trapdoors, drawers, telescopic rods, hooks: with each opening, a new fragment of the story appears. The object grows with the story, gradually invades the playing space, creates surprises, displacements, unexpected images. The staging plays with wool as with a thread of memory. Without ever seeking illustration, it advances by winks, detours, sudden appearances. Object theater allows for shifting the subject, lightening the cruelty of the tale, giving birth to humor where memories sting a little too hard. For behind the knitting hides a broader question: what do we receive from those who precede us? What do we choose to keep, to transform, to unknit? Is growing up losing one's illusions or learning to look at them differently? Is aging giving up or reconnecting with what one thought was lost? Between tenderness, irony, and poetry, the show tells the construction of a woman, her escapes, her metamorphoses, her awkwardness, and her desires. A story of tangled threads, missed stitches, cumbersome inheritances, and that possibility, always fragile, to pick up the work where one had left it.
