A meeting between two baroque guitarists in the Lage Landen In 1714, the Spanish baroque guitarist Santiago de Murcia releases a new book. It is a how-to book that teaches how to accompany someone on guitar. He does not have it printed on the Iberian Peninsula, however, but here in the Lage Landen, in Antwerp. That belonged to the Spaanse of Zuidelijke Nederlanden at that time. Of Santiago himself ever being in Antwerp, there is no conclusive proof for that. There are strong suspicions, however, since we find pieces by the Brussels guitarist François Le Cocq in his later work – pieces that had not yet been published at that time. Perhaps they met somewhere here, exchanged scores over a mug of beer, or even played together! Based on pieces by Murcia, Le Cocq and contemporaries, Delta tries to bring the imaginary journey and meeting to life: from the music and songs that echoed along the way to the improvisations they might have played together. Delta Delta is a musical collective, specialized in early music, founded by lutenist Adriaan Lauwers during his studies with Rolf Lislevand at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon. With a focus on Renaissance and Baroque, they perform in varying ensembles depending on the repertoire. Starting from old scores and books, they try to embody the image of the performing, but also singing, composing, and improvising musician from that period. Besides an unquenchable thirst for study and a love for new sounds, the ensemble mainly wants to stimulate people in an accessible way with fascinating stories on stage that bridge the past and the now. They have already been on the stages of, among others, MA Festival Brugge, FestiVita, MIM Brussels, the Appelvink, the Vleeshuis Antwerpen and played live on radio Klara.
