The life of psychiatrist Lilian (Jodie Foster) becomes completely disrupted after the unexpected suicide of her patient Paula. She refuses to accept that Paula would have ended her life and suspects that she has become a victim of a crime. Lilian suspects Paula's husband and sees no other solution than to investigate herself. It is not the first time that actress Jodie Foster plays in a French-language film, but it remains surprising how the double Oscar winner also manages to put all the nuances in French to make her portrayal as a psychiatrist come across perfectly. Vie privée combines Hitchcockian tension, glossy aesthetics, and a playful touch of camp into an entertaining, smooth detective film.
