Living Stories: Maria Malibran

When you walk past the town hall, you would almost forget that this was once a love nest. Operavedette Maria Malibran lived here together with violin virtuoso Charles de Bériot until she sang herself to death in 1836. She was barely 28 years old. Yet she seemed to have led not one but seven lives as an international world star and as a free-spirited woman. On Saturday afternoon, June 27, Bibliotheek Sans Souci will pay tribute to this remarkable figure, forever connected to our municipality. During 'Living Stories: Maria Malibran' we will follow in her footsteps together. Ode Goossens will guide you through the Ixelles of yesteryear, sisters Tatiana and Anna Samouil will perform a musical ode to La Malibran, and Annemarie Peeters will bring her to life with prose. A literary and musical walk with the support of the municipality of Ixelles in collaboration with the Heritage department.
