Heritage walk The city ramparts of Torhout

(Repeated due to success!) The city of Torhout has a past that reaches far back in time. Most traces of that rich past have disappeared. Some are therefore full of misunderstanding when we point to the interesting story that shaped our city. An example of such misunderstood heritage are the Torhout city ramparts. Once our city was limitedly protected by a stream with a moat. Today traces of that can still be found. But it can't hurt for most of us to interpret these a bit better. The ramparts turn out not to be so small at all and some nice facts were found about them. During the heritage walk we want to follow the course of the city ramparts as faithfully as possible. Here and there we pause at the story. Hendrik Vandeginste is the guide on duty. During years of archival research he came across various traces. For the heritage walk these are brought together into one story.
