Personal Trainer , the restlessly creative Dutch indie-rock band around Willem Smit has gradually worked its way up from the Amsterdam grassroots scene to a globally touring band within the roster of the renowned record label Bella Union (Beach House, The Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev,..). In their early years, Personal Trainer had a constantly changing lineup on stage and a penchant for absurdity . For example, they became the first band to perform continuously for 24 hours in Paradiso. In 2022, they self-released their debut LP ‘ Big Love Blanket ’, followed by ‘ Still Willing ’ in 2024. After three years of continuous touring, with shows at, among others, Lowlands and SXSW , they chose a different approach for the new record ‘ Human Assholes ’. Smit took the acoustic guitar as a starting point and wrote all the songs together with the rest of the band in the same physical space, instead of cutting and pasting everything behind a screen. This led them to the liberating insight that no song is ever finished and no show is ever the last, and that is exactly what defines Personal Trainer : “We don't have to handle things with velvet gloves, we don't have to desperately search for our sound.” Personal Trainer is known for their hyperactive, playful, and inventive indie-rock shows.
