Elijah Fox

Elijah Fox grew up in Durham, North Carolina, and learned to play the piano at age eleven through an advertisement in the local newspaper for a jazz jam session. There he met Yusuf Salim, a pianist who had played with Charlie Parker. Later, he studied at the Oberlin Conservatory and moved to New York, but his name only really became big via an unlikely detour: his piano composition East Village was sampled by Drake and 21 Savage on Major Distribution, which reached number three on the Billboard Charts. His impressionistic improvisation Wyoming went viral on TikTok and has since reached more than 45 million streams on Spotify. Fox worked as a producer and musician for SZA, Childish Gambino, Kali Uchis, J. Cole, Masego, and ScHoolboy Q, and is the regular keyboardist for British drummer Yussef Dayes. But besides all that, he also makes his own music: a mix of jazz, impressionism, and psychedelic soul, and he tours solo, inspired by Keith Jarrett.
