For thirteen years, the wealthy businesswoman Nadezhda von Meck cherished a boundless admiration for Tchaikovsky. That we still know Tchaikovsky today, we owe to her patronage. They exchanged more than 1,200 letters but decided never to meet. Oh, romance! Ook Beethoven was initially admired from a distance in our regions. But in 1849, the Ghent composer Charles-Louis Hanssens, after years of striving, succeeded: Beethoven's Ninth finally premiered in Belgium. Even closer to our time, (film) composer Max Richter also enters into a creative dialogue with the grandmaster in his Opus 2020 out of awe for Beethoven.
