100 YEARS OF CINEMA - BLAZING SADDLES

Presumably, Cinema Plaza has existed for a little longer, but the earliest provable document of the existence of Cinema Ankerpaleis in the Handelsstraat dates from 1926. A thorough reason for both Plazapeters Jan & Kris De Smet to celebrate the centenary in 2026 with some pearls from film history. The cunning entrepreneur Hedley Lamarr wants to have a railway built right through the Wilde Westen. The sleepy town of Rock Ridge is in his way and must therefore disappear. Together with the governor, he comes up with a plan to drive out the residents. He sends a rough and ruthless gang to the village and then appoints a sheriff who won't last a week in the small racist Rock Ridge: the black railway worker Bart. Lamarr believes the residents will be so offended that they will leave on their own.
