L'atelier Salu and the Laeken cemetery

Tue, 19 Aug 2031 · 14:00
Onze-Lieve Vrouwvoorplein - Laken, Brussels
€12
In 1881, the funerary sculptor Ernest Salu had workshops built not far from the Laeken cemetery, which would continue to expand over time until their closure in 1984. Initially, the workshop focused on artistic and exclusive creations that were only accessible to a wealthy elite. As society became more democratic, funerary monuments increasingly became "catalog" products, and the Salu workshop strove to respond to this evolution. Today, the buildings have been converted into a museum of funerary art by the non-profit organization Epitaaf. You will discover a place out of time, filled with funerary sculptures from the Art Nouveau and Art Déco era. We will extend the visit to the Laeken cemetery, the oldest cemetery in Brussels still in operation, renowned for the exceptional richness of its sculptural heritage.
