On a hot day last summer, Guido Belcanto drove his silver Cadillac to the Jubelpark in Brussels. There he stood in a pavilion in front of the gigantic relief ‘De Menselijke Driften’ by Jef Lambeaux. Between the bodies in stone, he recognized himself: the busker who moved from café to café and the man who later sang about his own lusts and shadow sides – with much compassion, but not without humor. Back home, he wrote with a sinister smile: ‘Life is a harsh horror... we are all going to die’. But in anticipation of that, there is the Emperor of the Life Song, comforting and imperturbable, to make everything right. Soon the silver Cadillac will zoom over the roads again with a new record, but also old crackers, murder ballads, and unique versions of songs by Loudon Wainwright III or the Zangeres Zonder Naam. There is no fixed concept for the show; the concept is Guido himself. Expect the unexpected from a veteran who sings with a sweet, familiar voice, formed by nights, lusts, and love.
