The year 3400. The sun no longer rises. The grass has disappeared. The globe is at rest and will reawaken in an unknown number of light-years. In this intermediate zone, the gummy is the living creature on earth. The gummies live in peace and harmony. They laugh, toil, amuse themselves, swarm close together, searching for warmth, doze off, and occasionally trot around recklessly. They are sometimes grim, but after devouring a tasty morsel, they leave the dispute behind. They whine and cry in the depths, telling in soft murmurs and cackles about something that once was and is yet to come. Ballet Dommage and Suze Milius choose a utopian, alienating world in GUMMI. A universe in which conflict is not part of the plot and in which nothing is at stake. No catharsis or total ruin. The spectator sees the small scenes and daily rituals of peaceful creatures in a no-man's-land where everything seems as it is. After the zany nightmare Tavern Michelle (2022) and the theatricalized family party Fratssen (2024), Ballet Dommage (the theater collective of Katrien Valckenaers and Maxim Storms) creates the alienating GUMMI at BRONKS, in collaboration with director Suze Milius. Together, they find each other in a physical and absurd theatrical language that reveals and abstracts the small quirks of human behavior. concept Ballet Dommage & Suze Milius - direction Suze Milius - cast Katrien Valckenaers, Maxim Storms, Kazanga Jonathan Linga, Lobke Leirens, Lisa Verbelen, Emma Browaeys (intern), Anton Rys (intern), Lentle Tolkatchev (intern) - scenography Ballet Dommage & Suze Milius in collaboration with decor studio BRONKS - costume Rachid Laachir - music Linde Carrijnproductie - BRONKS - co-production Perpodium - with the support of the Tax Shelter of the Belgian federal government via BNPPFFF - © photo Maxim Storms & Hanne Lemmens
