At this opening concert, Jasper Depraetere plays several classics arranged for carillon by Mozart, Beethoven, Dvorak, and Samuel Barber. He continues with a number of more recent carillon works. Astor Piazolla also gets his attention. He concludes with a triptych of Old Dutch songs in a setting for carillon by Geert D’hollander. Jasper is the carillonneur of our municipality and deputy city carillonneur of Lier. He studied at the Koninklijke Beiaardschool 'Jef Denyn' in Mechelen and at the Luca School of Arts. He obtained his Master of Music in carillon and music education with the highest distinction. A year later, he graduated as the very first carillonneur with a Master of Music in chamber music, also with the highest distinction. In 2019, he won the second prize in the Internationale Beiaardwedstrijd Koningin Fabiola in Mechelen. He teaches at the Carillon School in Mechelen. Since this year, he is also chairman of the Vlaamse Beiaardvereniging.
