Glow-worms, fireflies, lightning bugs? A magical walk in Bertem

Around midsummer night, dozens, sometimes hundreds of small fireflies transform the darkening forest into a fairy tale.  We gather at 10 PM for a fifteen-minute walk, to then admire the spectacle of dancing lights. The first lights appear half an hour before it gets dark. While they fly low over the litter layer, the courting males of the small firefly light up green fluorescently. The females, without wings on the ground, indicate where they are with flashing signals.  The end of the activity is around midnight.
