Summer walk "Transformation of the station area in Leuven"
Wed, 8 Jul 2026 · 16:30
Martelarenplein aan het oorlogsmonument, Leuven
€5
In the early 1990s, Professor Marcel Smets developed an ambitious master plan for the Leuven station area. From an integrated vision of the entire station environment, he set out the lines for a major urban renewal. His main objectives were: to develop the station into a multimodal hub, to reconnect Leuven and Kessel-Lo, to densify the station environment with housing, offices, shops, and high-quality public space, and to create an attractive living and working environment.
During this city walk, you will discover how this progressive vision became reality step by step. Through surprising stories and remarkable interventions, you get a unique insight into the transformation of the station area. Even those who know the neighborhood well will be surprised.
